Healthy Sisters

Healthy Sisters has been a part of New City’s work since the summer of 2012. Over the last four years, 14 volunteer drivers have provided 215 rides, friendship and council to over 30 women. Pat, one of our volunteer drivers states that,
“I was interested in volunteering with Healthy Sisters because of my previous experience driving people who were either low-income or disabled, or both, to their appointments as a volunteer for years with Northwest Portland Ministries. Story and a Snack

Story and a Snack has gotten off with a slow but steady start, like any good novel, encouraging and connecting with families one day and one page at a time. Families that are participating are so very excited that the program exists. Here is what some of the volunteers are saying about the experience:

During our winter staff retreat, New City decided to start a staff book club together and check in during our monthly meetings to discuss it. The book we chose to read is called Breaking Night, and we’d like to highly recommend this book to our volunteers and participants! This is a deeply moving personal account of a young woman’s journey from "Homelessness to Harvard," as per her description.
